We have been creatures of habit recently, visiting the same places and going to the same coffee shops, so we haven’t been to many new ones, but here are the few Cafés we have visited.
Broad Walk Cafe – Kensington Gardens
Another of the Colicci Chain
We searched for Coffee in Kensington Palace Gardens and was coming up short but then in the distance we spotted Broad Walk Cafe!
The head Barista took our order, shouting it out but within moments she became annoyed at the rest of the staff who were clearly useless.
That being said once the coffees were in our hands we found them to be just as good as the other Colicci’s!
Blank Street Coffee – Angel
Blank Street has just opened in Angel and on the opening week they had a Special Offer – All Coffees £1 so got one set and went back for more a little later – Bruffin joined us.
First was the usual – Black Americano and then Two Oat Mochas – they were pretty good! We retuned a little later for the Strawberry Latte and the Pistachio Latte – which were not so good.
Grind – Battersea Power Station
Our experiences of Grind have not been the best, Soho and Old Street’s branch serve tiny cups of froth and charge a lot. But having not tried anything for a few weeks we braved the froth and were pleasantly surprised by the result.
The cups were way bigger than the usual for Grind and had a good flavour. The vans on the concourse at the end of the Power Station stand out and they sell pods and ground coffee too.
In all it’s worth trying again, we will just have to make a point of requesting they not be the British Standard of cold temperature. Side note is that the Black Americano’s always seem to leak, why is that?
We went back this week just to double check if we liked it and we found the staff to be really friendly and jovial.
Metropolis – Morden
The only decent Coffee Shop in Morden or at least it seems that way – by that we mean Café with an accent and not a Greasy Spoon or a Costa.
It also seems to be a recording studio and Art Gallery, when we went there the exhibition was paintings of Apes!
The Coffee was a decent size and quite good, but in true trendy style the Mocha was cold and the Americano leaked and was scalding hot!
Phyllo Patisserie – Archway
Archway is another of those places where they can’t make coffee.
This looks like a nice place, with a large front and clean white interior, a lot of space and a large selection of cakes and pastries.
But the coffee was truly SHIT! The Black Americano was frothy, the Mocha tasted like soil and the cupcakes tasted wrong so very wrong! Earthy and plastic.
So hence…
Starbucks – Knightsbridge
So this is an odd addition, but while out the other week we were desperate for a Frappuccino (As it was still warm out, back then) and apparently there is a Starbucks in Knightsbridge.
After 5 minutes of searching up and down the exclusive but busy main road we realised that it is in the Tube Station.
Down a lot of stairs and along a winding corridor we found the kiosk and a nice Barista who took our order and we waited while a bratty child demanded every cake and biscuit available.
The only real reason for including this branch of the worldwide chain is because it’s so oddly situated, the only Starbucks in Knightsbridge and it’s here! The Fraps were ok, just the new flavours are a bit suspect! But they are the best thing the twin tailed mermaid can make!
Well there we go that’s another few for the list – or the map in our case! Come back next time for more from Climbing-Moss.
