Well here we are once again, back on our walk and with a dog in a rucksack on a cooooooold day in March, it was literally snowing as we set off, but here is what you can expect if you brave the elements and follow along on the Climbing Moss Heart of London Walk Section 17 from Northwood Hills to Carpenter’s Park…
In all my life in London, I (Ash) have never heard of Carpenter’s Park, but that’s the beauty of walking these routes, you discover places and this section was a nice walk, full of new discoveries. Although this walk is pretty short, do remember we were still having to carry a dog a lot of the time, so we shortened the section to just 3miles.
We started as we said in the snow at Northwood Hills Station and instantly found coffee at the only option- a rather inappropriate venue for the cold day – an Ice Cream and Dessert Shop! See what we thought here.
We set forth along Potter’s Street, no wizards or Muggles in sight but we did spot a Redwing (a bird as pictured at the top) as we traipsed up the long residential road that got steeper and steeper as we went – so much so we marked it on the map so you are warned! At the junction with Hillside Road you cross into a lovely Private Road and continue climbing the hills alongside a mixed bag of houses it looks like a dead-end, but trust us it continues. Turning up Pinner Hill and then around towards the Clubhouse of Pinner Hill Golf Club. I (Ash) played here once, it is a lovely course – just the members are a bit stuck up! Pass this and follow the road round to find an entrance to the Oxhey Woods.
Along the path you will spot a sculpture of a house, this is the first of many if you take the shown detour – The Oxhey Woods Sculpture Trail. This is the highlight of this section – spot the frog in the pond, the old TV and Armchair, the Green Man’s Face and many more before returning to the start and exiting into South Oxhey Woods and then onto Oxhey Drive.
Follow the road to the end, take a left and then over to the right where a parade of shops and the Station sit. Here is the end of this short section, or continue on under the railway to start section 18!
But for this post we will leave it there and you can come back in a couple of weeks when we tell you about Section 18 of the #CMHoL. If you do the walk do remember to tag us in your social Media Posts.
