Coffee Days

Well it’s another round-up of Coffee shops and places we have visited to find a decent brew, while on our travels. Here are the latest finds…

Pierpoint Coffee – Battersea Park

While in Battersea Park a few weeks back we sampled the coffee of both establishments, first was the Pierpoint Coffee at the top near the river.

This is a kiosk kind of place at first we thought it was another Colicci, but sadly it wasn’t and it wasn’t very good either. The server was a true idiot, completely stupid and had to be told the same order at least 4 times.

So after a long wait we received the order and walked. The coffee was not good and was sour and extremely hot.

Pear Tree Coffee – Battersea Park, by the lake.

The Pear Tree had a logo that looked more like a button, a pig’s snout or a Scrotum! And the logo was on every door, table, menu, everywhere! It had a mass of 5 star reviews on google so we had to try it and got a second coffee within an hour while wandering around the park, because of the rating.

What did we think? Well, was extremely expensive (over £9 for the 2 coffees), it was cold, watered down and mostly just froth and the male servers were vain, bored, pricks. The female barista however, was really helpful and accommodating adding ice cubes to the Americano without being asked. So one star for her!

Clearly the clientele were mostly, loud, obnoxious Americans and wannabe trendies, hence the pretentious reviews and the love of really bad coffee! The coffee was cold, not even tepid and sour. We threw them away only half drunk.

Rating is mostly for the female Barista…

Leaf & Bean – Rotherhithe Station

Late on a Tuesday afternoon, we found the coffee shop tucked in the side of the Overground Station and were surprised to find it open, we ordered the usual and waited rather a long time for the 2 drinks to be made, missing one train in the process!

But the wait was kind of worth it, as in, it was a much needed caffeine shot on a cold, wet day and the cups were quite large, all in all it was fairly good.

Being as it is the only coffee shop we could find in the area it may be visited again, as long as we aren’t in a hurry!

The Living Room Club – Camden Road

Another late coffee run attempt, this time at Camden Road, just outside the railway station, there is a bar that has always been there, it just never looked very appealing, until a cold, wet, Monday night, when we happened to need to go to the nearby Supermarket and being past 5pm we were surprised to spot it still open and serving.

We popped in and were warmly welcomed by two guys, who happily took our order and chatted while preparing the usual drinks, they added the required cold water to the Black Americano which was piping hot (a rarity in trendy areas) and we left having got another loyalty card for the pile.

Unfortunately, given the lovely service, the coffee was lacking, the Mocha had a strange taste and the Americano tasted earthy and bitter

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

So there you go another round-up of places, not the most successful selection, but now you know what they are like, we will keep searching for the best places to get coffee in and around London and remember to check on the map for whichever area you happen to be in and see what we thought.

Come back next time for another review, until then, C Ya!
