We know you have been waiting for the next Coffee Post but we have bean a bit busy. So we brewed over some reviews and here is what we have found.
We have been back to a few places we went to in the past that have been taken over, changed hands or names, or are a branch of a chain and so we are updating our rating and our review of them…
We have gone up and down Lambs Conduit Street, multiple times recently and though we have tried some of the coffee shops we hadn’t tried this one.
So this time we did – on the corner the little white shop has the appearance of a Workman’s Cafe, but isn’t. The staff were pretty nice, a little slow at making the coffee, maybe it was the end of the day!
But it was worth it in the end.
Black Sheep Coffee – Goodge Street
As we have said in previous posts Black Sheep is either Hit or Miss as it’s a franchise chain, (that means you buy the name, but it’s not quality controlled by one central source) – well this one is a MISS.
We never had the coffee because what kind of establishment charges 5.00 for a filter coffee? or 5.50 for a Mocha or 6.50 with alternative milk? This is too much!
It’s all done via the app and the barista was literally snoozing on top of the Espresso Machine waiting for the order to go through the screen, rather than just take the order, but as we said we looked at the prices and went around the corner to the Nero with the demented Barista!
When this was Esquire’s the coffee was really good, the atmosphere welcoming and the staff really friendly. Sadly that shut down and Zeal took over. The website is very strange.
There was 9 members of staff doing not a lot – we ordered the usual Americano (which was so ridiculously sour as to be unfunny) and an Oat Milk Mocha (which even though we stated OAT 5 times! Still came as normal milk) The Staff were unbothered but I suppose they seemed to be on a training day so maybe that’s why they haven’t mastered the art of coffee making (or listening).
The only funky thing was the logo was embossed in Chocolate on the Mocha.
Been Extract- Haggerston Station
Mr Chatterbox’s! As we call it. This is one we reviewed a few years back when he worked out of the back of an old Transit van in Hoxton Market and wore a Colonial British Army Tunic.
These days he has downsized to a Mobile Coffee Van at the side of the road outside the Silverlink Station and he’s traded the Red Jacket for a Black Beret!
The Coffee he makes is great and has a variety of Chocolate choices for the Mocha or Hot Chocolate (White, Milk, Dark and Extra Dark) and large size cups, it’s all a little compact and there are signs all over to indicate lids, sugar, water, etc!
But don’t try for a flying coffee before catching your train, as he is a great talker! The most recent conversations have been about kids and the soon to be New Dad is keen to talk about everything Paediatric! But, after a long and lengthy chat we took our coffees and realised we had missed the train.

The Cafe at Battersea Dogs home is actually pretty good! It took a while to be served by seemingly grumpy staff, then waiting around whilst the Coffee’s were being made. However the taste was pretty good and if you wanted a meal it looks like there is an extensive menu.
Not Coffee but Milk tea! The queue was very long and it was packed full of people – So you know it must have been good! It was! Thankfully this will take over from The Alley (Closed) So at least the bubble tea will be sorted!
We found ourselves in Archway the other day and fancied a coffee – We aimed to go to Coffee Republic- However Barry’s seemed to have taken over. This seemed to be the only choice and after tasting it we wished we hadn’t bothered! This seemed like standard Turkish Coffee – Horribly sour and if Oat Milk was added to the Mocha it became more white than paper.
Well there we go the first Coffee Shop review of 2024! Come back next time for another post about Coffee, Walking, Reviews or simply about the dog or even toothpaste!
