It’s Christmaaaaaas!!

Its that time of year again, when celebrations are at their high during that time we will be doing our yearly tradition of the Top 100 people of the year but it got us thinking rather than just send you some Holiday wishes, what other things are our favorites at Christmas….

So apart from our Top 100’s what else do we have as our Tops?

What Marks The Start of Christmas?

Ash

Mine has been the same as it has been since I was a kid, seemingly one of my friends has the same marker – It is Stop the Cavalry by Jona Lewie played in public over a speaker or in a bar, somewhere that is not me playing it. Technically this isn’t even a Christmas song it just mentions Christmas in the lyrics ‘I wish I was at home for Christmas, in the arms of the one I love’

Bob

Wrapping the presents that I have accumulated over the year and gaining back space in my room.

Favorite Christmas Song?

Ash

I do like Christmas songs – I have an entire playlist full of them but out of all of them my favourite is David Bowie and Bing Crosby – Little Drummer Boy but it has to have the talking and intro for it to count.

Bob

I am the other way – I tend to hate Christmas songs but I will make an exception for a few.. I will stay loyal and say Stray Kids – Christmas EveL – because it doesn’t sound like a Christmas song! and its Stray Kids duh!

Favorite Christmas Movie?

Ash

You can’t just do one, there’s moods you know. There’s Cheesy – The Santa Clause and Scrooged, There’s the Classic – It’s a Wonderful Life, but I think the essential must watch each year isn’t whole heartedly a Christmas film. It’s a film about the Smith family and their life leading up to the great exposition – in Meet me in St Louis. A musical that I love (not Bob under any circumstances) this was one of my Mum’s favorites and she drummed it into the whole family. Everyone in the family would be doing sing alongs on Christmas Day!

Bob

Again I’m not a big Christmas Movie kind of person but obviously Nightmare Before Christmas is the one and only.

Favorite Christmas Childhood tradition?

Ash

That would be putting the stocking on the end of the bed – so Father Christmas would put the presents in.. of course it got passed the point of it being ‘Father Christmas’ and it being my drunk parents at 2am, giggling whilst trying to shove presents in a small stocking. They were only in their mid 30’s at the time and now looking back it makes sense why they were so out of it – as a 10 year old I was baffled.

Bob.

I’m not really sure we ever had a tradition – maybe we made Jelly or Peppermint creams? Everyone kind of does their own thing and that’s it.

Favorite Christmas Currant Tradition?

Ash

So now there are a number of things to do each year including meeting friends for Christmas drinks wearing bad Christmas jumpers, loud shirts or the like. Walking around the West End to see the lights but the main tradition now is the search for a decent Mulled Wine, a good price, tastes good and is a large size with alcohol!

Bob

I mean Mulled wine is as good as any maybe watching Gayo Daejeon? I’m not a big Christmas person….

Favorite Christmas Food?

Ash

Even though shops stock my favourite in August – you just can’t have Mince Pies any time – it must be saved for Christmas and when you can eat them yay!

Bob

Maybe Sage and Onion Stuffing or Bread sauce? I dunno

Favorite Christmas Drink?

Ash

Probably Mulled Wine with an extra shot of brandy, I mean as a Kid we used to have Snowballs, I can’t drink cider so that’s out!

Bob

Mulled wine is always a plus and only usually in the cold months, maybe Amaretto which I always get a shot during Christmas? Sour beers that are Christmassy – there’s lots of new ones so stay tuned?

Favorite Christmas Memory?

Ash

As a kid growing up in North London we had a big extended family, aunts, uncles and the like that weren’t blood related but still considered ‘family’ Every Christmas my one of these aunts/uncles – Barbra and Frank – would have a Christmas parties. Everyone went, looking back, there was so many people named and unnamed, famous and infamous – From Singers, Actors, Football players, London Gangsters and that. To this house in Muswell Hill – one year the Party was in full swing, everyone drinking, dancing, laughing and full of the ‘Christmas Spirit’, when there was a knock on the door and someone opened it to reveal a pair of Policemen in uniform, now the sight of a cop to most of the attendees was enough to make them run out the back door! But the Bobbies doffed their hats and informed Uncle Frank that the neighbours were complaining about hte noise and could they turn it down. Frank informed the police that the neighbours had been invited in and most of the rest of the neighbourhood were all in the house. The policemen said their piece and went to inform the house next door that they had done their duty and left.

An hour later the same pair of men knocked and asked again for the music to be turned down and Uncle Frank did the only sensible thing – he dragged the police into the house and shoved a drink in their hands, then he went to the living room where people were chatting and dancing, he called everyone into the Front Room of the house and got the stereo and turned the speakers to the wall to the neighbours. Then found Slade’s Merry Christmas Everyone one and put it on FULL BLAST and made everyone sing. When it got to the chorus a couple hundred people were screaming their heads off;

So here it is, Merry Christmas
Everybody’s having fun
Look to the future now
It’s only just begun

And adding the IT’S CHRISTMAS You bunch of ******…. you get the point. Including the pair of policemen! This is the image I have whenever Noddy Holder screams at the end of this song!

Ahh the memory!

Bob

I’m not sure I have one particular memory – There’s a couple – Watching Bracken knock the Christmas Decorations off the tree when he was a puppy, Smoking with Sasha (best teenage friend) on her Roof during the Christmas Party. Watching Muffin (my first dog) play in the snow when there was a white Christmas, Seeing Solo rip open her presents (every year!) Yep there’s been a few.
