New Year’s Coffee

Well it’s another year add so time to start the blog with new things, new ideas and new adventures!…

But first coffee…

Le Peché Mignon – Highbury

We discovered this little French Deli a while while taking a shortcut onto Holloway Road, it seems quite popular even if it is tucked away down a side road in the weird one way system of Highbury. On this day we needed a hot coffee, because it was freezing and so we headed to Le Peché Mignon and ordered a pair of Oat Mocha’s and waited. While waiting we looked at the expensive cheese and wine etc on sale and noted the Carrot Cake and the like which seemed a reasonable price given the size of the slices.

But we took our drinks and sat for a moment on the benches outside before braving the cold once more on our journey.

Overall the coffee was pretty good, a little small for our liking, but other than that, it was all good. We must remember it is there when next we are forced to go to Holloway.

Leroy House – Essex Road This building has been here for many years but recently underwent a facelift and gained a new foyer, with a large, modern coffee shop, which seems to remain empty at all times.

We took a chance and headed in for a pair of Oat Mocha’s on another cold weekday.

The barista is a nice guy, happy and chatty, the interior is vast and yet comfy, with a lot of seating and paintings all around, the order was made quickly and we took our coffees and headed off on our journey. The coffee is good and we have been back a couple of times since, as there is a real lack of good coffee shops in the area, so we are grateful for the new addition to the local area and Leroy House!

Cocofee – Newington Green Road

As Leroy House was shut for Christmas we sought other coffee in the area, this place looks more Cafe like rather than Café (the accent makes all the difference)

Cocofee is a long place with a lot of faux wooden tables and chairs and very yellow lighting. We ordered the pair of Mochas and waited and waited and had the owner talk and talk and talk about anything and everything, rather than make the coffee. He was so distracted he tried pouring Dairy Milk in the coffee, thankfully we caught it and stopped him.

Eventually he managed to make the drinks and stop talking long enough for us to escape. We took the coffees and walked, sipping and discovering there was no chocolate, he had managed to make latte’s and weak ones at that. If we wanted weak lattes they would have been good, but we didn’t so…

Tozi – Battersea Power Station

This is more of an honourable mention – we tried to get coffee in Battersea the other day. Blank Street was broken so we tried Tozi instead – We asked for 2 Oat Mochas but they told us that the chocolate was premixed liquid with semi skimmed dairy milk and so was not suitable for us. We contemplated seeing if there was anything else on the menu – sadly there was not but the staff were really helpful and not there just to take our money. So we didn’t get a coffee (which looked very good) but 5 stars for the service.
