June Coffee

Well lately we haven’t been going out as much as we used to – what with legs and puppies but we have managed to find a few more coffee shops…

52A Coffee House – Southgate Road

We have reviewed 52 before back then we called it ‘Shouty Coffee Shop’ because although we liked it, it was always populated by Turkish women who spent the entire time shouting on their phones or through the narrow interior. Since then it has changed hands, decor and now it is a lot calmer and cleaner, little tables and chairs fill the long, thin former florist on the corner of the junction.
It has a large range of food, cakes and coffee on offer, only one Barista so the service can take a while if you want a quick coffee to take away, but it’s all very pleasant.

We ordered the usual and got on our way on a glorious Monday Afternoon.
The Coffee was pretty good but it hadn’t been mixed so it started a little sour but got progressively sweeter as it went down.

Dream Cafe – Green Lanes

One of those places you go past all the time but never go in, it has changed hands a few times, but Dreams seems to have been the name for a while. For the first time the other day we were passing and stopped in to get the usual (2 Oat Mochas) we were surprised by the interior – it is colourful and comforting, it’s a little identity confused as it seems like one of the following – a Cafe selling a Full English Breakfast at 2pm, or a Diner selling Paninis and Baguettes, or a Turkish Restaurant selling Baklava and strong coffee?

Service was quick and pleasant and we left to catch a bus!
The coffee was pretty good, it may have got a little sour at the end but it’s enough to mark it as Returnable on the Coffee Map

Lot 103 – Newington Green

Bob has wanted to get coffee from here for a while because it’s taken over a pretencious health food shop that did sell coffee but in thimbles and for £6 each.
Now it is reopened and looked good, but was always shut when we passed, but due to a change in opening hours Bob popped in to finally order and find an excuse to try out some if not all the languages she has been learning over the last 6 years! She ordered the usual coffees, before reluctantly leaving. There was a food menu which looked extensive and after watching a couple of people get there orders – the portions are pretty generous!

The coffee Iced due to it being one of the two days it was actually hot this year! What were they like… disappointing! Small and sour was the easiest way to put it. Not a great excuse to make it our new favourite local coffee supplier.

Bobo and Wild – Shoreditch Park

This is one of the shops we had tried when it was more of a ‘cafe’. Back then it wasn’t very good but since then it has had a bit of an upgrade.
So we wandered through Shoreditch Park to take a look and buy a coffee. We ordered the usual (2xMochas) in Iced form and walked with the dogs.
The service was not good, it took ages to get served and the 2 Baristas were too busy flirting with a customer to pay attention to us. Eventually we got the drinks and left to sit in the park.

The drinks were rather disappointing again, they had no chocolate in them and were really flat, very much just Latte’s with little to no taste.

So that was June so far nothing outstanding nothing too bad but nevertheless here’s the round up.
