Mukbap – A review

The other day we were looking around for takeaways and something different from the usual (Burgers, Indian or Chinese) we looked around for our preferred cuisines but after looking for over 40 mins we spotted a Korean Vegan shop so we thought why not!

That’s where we came upon Mukbap a small Vegan Korean restaurant in Shoreditch (Worship Street) that had some good reviews. We had heard and seen a number of reviews via Tiktok and Instagram most notably The LIttle London Vegan who gave them a rave review.
We browsed the menu and knowing that they delivered to the area and we ordered what caught our eye.

We ordered a small selection of both starters and mains, similar to what we ordered in Seoul and Busan last year. Since they are a Korean owned business we figured it would be much the same as there in terms of portions and taste.
Since all food is vegan we got Pajeon – 파전 (Vegetable Pancake), Kimchi – 김치 , Fried Chicken, Bibimbap Beef 불고기 비빔밥, Bulgogi 불고기) (Beef with Rice) We ordered and then waited as you do… the expected time was just 15 minutes which was surprising!
As per usual the Deliveroo driver got lost for a further 10 minutes when he eventually turned up he had only two very small brown bags which was a little worrying.

We opened the bags finding 3 Biscotti? Two dipping sauces, and some small white containers. First we opened a slim tray which held 9 Chicken pieces each very small nuggets which was very underwhelming in comparison to the portion we had in Osegye Hyang.

Then the Pajeon which was sadly only one small pancake cut into small squares about the same size (Compared to the 10 inch pancakes we got in Seoul) The Kimchi was as expected in size. The Bibimbap was pretty good in size but was made up of predominantly rice, the Bulgogi was again heavy on the rice but light on the ‘beef’

That was the sizes so we were a little skeptical to begin with but we tried not to judge so we sat and watched the last episode of Squid Games (which was very disappointing for Bob) whilst eating!

The food itself was actually really good there was quite a lot of flavor (not so much spice) but it was very tasty it’s just a shame there wasn’t enough of it for two people.
Maybe the portions in the shop are larger (as is the same for a lot of places)

Bob would definitely eat there again (The Kimchi was amazing) I really enjoyed the food but I would maybe try some more of the dishes and maybe order a double portion of Chicken and Pajeon – Maybe we have been spoiled with Korean portions or New Malden restaurants but I would recommend. Plus I love that it was all Vegan!!! I would say it is also a brilliant place to start for people that haven’t had Korean Food before. – 잘 먹었습니다

Ash it was ok….. it was very small and it wasn’t the same as you would expect.

So there you go a small review of a Little Korean Restaurant in Central London, have you been there? What was your favorite dish? Maybe we might try it again this time in person….
