The other day we received a promotional email for men’s Boxer shorts – a monthly subscription with a free introductory offer! From the Dutch brand On That Ass here’s what we thought.
We followed the link to the website to take a look on what was on offer and found ourselves somewhat perplexed. The website is very strange the writing is oversized, the photos are peculiar showcasing complex photoshoot concepts – sci-fi, boxing scenes etc – with men ‘Sagging’ (wearing their trousers very low even with a belt). This is to showcase the boxers although we were more confused than interested.

However we thought we would give it a go (cos why not) so we followed the directions – try for 14 days – you can pick your preference (plain or patterned). So of course we chose the patterned – the plain are boring! Then picked the size, then on to the next page.
At this point you can pick 1 of 10 designs all very busy, some garish and some not too bad – apparently this changes monthly, but as of now it’s mostly bold graphics with cartoon designs looking much like a comic book. With names such as Davi, Rocco and Toucan (why? there’s only sloths?) All with a large waist band with the brand name ON THAT ASS in case you didn’t know.

We picked one – Gambit (Black, white and red) comic-book style depicting chess pieces and boards it was the least garish of the designs and signed up for the trial and in a few minutes the chosen pair of shorts were ordered.
In addition there is a loyalty scheme. Every month you receive £10 in shopping credit, allowing you to save up for exclusive items such as Hoodies and Sweatpants. Although the models all look like total stoned chavs! The clothes are typical gang attire, grey elastic pants and nasty fake football kits in vomit green and taupe!

Three days later the postman knocked with a foil bag and a pair of boxers enclosed! So, what are they like? Well they are decent, a thick material of 95% cotton 5% Elastane, robust stitching and colourfast dyes, plus they claim to be ‘leg creep free’ – this is the technical term for not riding up your leg and balling around your groin. Ash tried the new short immediately!
Well, they are comfortable and seem to be creep free! They fit well around the front and back, holding everything in place.
So what’s next? After your freebie you can stayed signed up or cancel the membership, or just pause for a month or upto 6 months. All seems pretty good, or is it?

Well it’s £11.99 a month for a pair of shorts! But who needs new boxers every month and £12 a go, when you can get a pack of 3 from the High Street for £8. The OTA Shorts are made in China and you know that means they cost a penny a pair to make and and are sold on at a massive profit, that is clearly how the company can afford to give away freebies to potential customers every month, probably one sale equals the cost of making the whole batch in Asia! The Loyalty Scheme is much the same, the hoodies and tracksuit bottoms are the same as Primark sell for £5 but on the website they are charging £100 a piece.
So, will we keep the subscription going and wait for the delivery of a pair of pairs in the mail each month? We think not, though the idea is decent and the manufacture is pretty good, £12 a month for a pair of new pants is a bit much for us, we aren’t on that level of wear them once and through them away! but should you feel Boujee and want a fresh pair each month then follow this link and signup, at least try the first month and see what you think.
Are you a subscriber of new pants in the post, what do you think of the concept? leave a comment! We will be back next time with another post about something completely different!
