Busan Food and Drink

Well we told you all about the places that we visited in Busan during our short stay. Now it’s time to tell you what it’s like to eat and drink in Busan, if you are a Veggie/Vegan and/or a lover of a Craft Beer!

One of us (Bob) Is Veggie/Vegan with some Allergies and Ash is still a meat eater, but with his own Allergies and a lot of dislikes! So sometimes finding food that is edible can be a challenge! Below you can see some of our choices and selections that should give you a fair idea of food in the city, but we didn’t indulge in Barbecue before you ask!

述古堂(Sulgodang)

A Korean Restaurant nestled in one of the side roads with a cool view of the market below. We ordered One Vegan Japchae (Cold Glass Noodles) and Beef Doenjang jjigae (A Beef Spicy Stew) that came with vegan Banchan (Side dishes).

Her : The Japchae was ok… not the best I have ever had – it was missing Garlic. That being said the Side dishes were pretty good!

Him: It was pretty good – not the best not the worst. The side dishes were hit or miss. The Tteokbokki was ok not amazing and the potato salad was different! I tried the Kimchi and just reassured myself I don’t like Kimchi!

Galmegi Brewing – 갈매기브루잉

We ended the day in Galmegi Brewery our first experience of going upstairs to find the bar/restaurant but it gave a good view of the nightlife of Busan. We chose Yuja Gose – Which was delicious and a Dark Elixir – which was good, it was sweet and yummy, maybe too thick and heavy to drink more than a couple.

Vegenarang – 베지나랑

Vegenarang was on the 9th floor of a building which looked more like an office block with an industrial elevator – Once inside the views are spectacular.

We got Sweet and Sour Mushrooms and Deep Fried Mushrooms which were delicious! Everything on the menu is mushroom based and the portions were Huge! The thing worth noting was the closing times on Naver stated 8pm but it was 9pm when we arrived and they were still serving. A side note there is no alcohol available on site.

Gorilla Brewing Co.

The Gorilla Brewing Co. turns out to be a little bar that at 6pm was empty until we ordered a pair of beers and sat down, marvelling more at how pretty the staff were (male and female) and how good the beers were.

We ordered a Sour IPA and a British Stout – Both of which were delicious!!! We even bought some extra cans of Sun Shower for Her and a Daddy’s Touch for Him to drink back at the hotel.

Of Course in between going to bars and restaurants we did the occasional street food.

A stick of Tornado Potato – Which although smothered in Ketchup and Mustard it was still exceptionally sweet.

A Hotteok – Which was really nice and Sweet!

We got Ramyeon from the local shop and some pre-done soft boiled eggs.

An got an extortionately large amount of Juice to put in the ice cups.

Stay tuned next week for Coffee Shops and Cafes and then more of the adventure.
